A BATTLE FOR BETTER SKIn
When your skin is sensitive, finding the right Skincare products can be Really irritating!
As if working out what type of skin you have, and what type of product you needed wasn’t enough, consumers are expected to compare and contrast hundreds of stores, thousands of skincare brands, and a mind numbing amount of text trying to seek out, remove and eliminate irritants to try and cobble together a collection of products that works with your skin.
You can’t take marketing terms at face value, not if you value your face!
Our skin has always been difficult to manage as Sam has Psoriasis and Chris is prone to Eczema/ Dermatitis. In an effort to reduce inflammation we would buy skincare products marked as sensitive, 100% natural or even those marketed as suitable for babies. We had assumed that these terms meant that the products would now be free of potential sensitisers. However, many of these still contained added fragrance of some description and we were finding that our skin was getting worse, not better. While essential oils, for example, are cosmetically appealing and have some skin benefits they bring with them the potential to sensitise the skin and work against those benefits.
There are 26 declared fragrance allergens compiled by the EU ('The 26'). You would like to think these potential irritants had been removed from most products marketed as 'sensitive'. However, if you are in any doubt as to how misleading the term sensitive can be we recommend you take a look at the full list of the 26, and go searching. Open the cupboard, or load up a sensitive skincare website and get digging. You might be quite surprised by how many of these ingredients you find across the vast majority of 'sensitive' product ranges - we were.
The Skin Kind Destination
It was time consuming, difficult, and irritating to add an additional step to our skincare search. Now we had a list of things to avoid, it felt like we were ordering everything from different sites. Our cleanser came from one shop, and our moisturiser from another. We decided to create a new destination: SKIND. We search through brands, and find products that match our ethos before buying them for ourselves (or family/friends that we have roped in) and trying them out to check their effectiveness. Only after this do we include them in our product line-up. If we wouldn't use it we wouldn't sell it!
All of the products in our collection are:
Free from ‘The 26’
Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate (SLS/SLES) free
From UK based skincare brands
Tried and loved by us.
Everything, Not Anything
We’ve seen the benefits of these skincare products, they are on this website because we believe in what they do, and we trust that they are some of the very best on the market. We’ve removed the noise and given you the hidden gems from each range to help you invigorate your skincare routine with products you can have confidence in. You’ll find Everything you need, not Anything we could find – there’s a big difference.
We choose our fragrance free skincare products based on our own experiences, and the experiences of our users. Sending us a review of a product allows us to get even more real world feedback, tips and tricks to then feature on the pages or our blog. If you have any comments, reviews or general feedback then please email Info@skind.co.uk. As we continue to review and adjust our product range this feedback will be essential to the growth of a healthy skincare website.
Thank you, and don't forget your Sunscreen! :)
