So what exactly is rosacea and what causes it?

Rosacea is a long term skin condition that typically affects the face. It results in redness, pimples swelling and small and superficial dilated blood vessels. The areas most often affected are the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin.

Exact figures are not know but it its thought that Rosacea affects somewhere between one and 10% people with those affected most often between 30 and 50 years old and predominantly female. 

The cause of rosacea is unknown. However, risk factors are believed to include genetics. Factors which may worsen the condition include; temperature changes, exercise, sunlight, spicy food, alcohol, menopause, psychological stress, or steroid cream on the face.

How can rosacea be treated?

While not curable, medical treatment usually improves symptoms and a GP/ Dermatologist should be consulted. The daily use of sunscreen is typically recommended.
